What it is

The Huntsman's Game is a level 3–5 Feywild one-shot for 3–6 characters, built around a single mechanic: Trail, a 0-to-3 scale that tracks how close the Huntsman's pack is to finding the party. Crossing water, hiding in the canopy, or leaving blood behind all raise or lower it. The party moves through nine named locations, from the Running Wood to Mosswater Ford to the Hollow Oak (the one safe place to rest), before a tracked final chase to the standing stones at Sunrise Ridge.

It's the expanded version of a scenario also playable for free as part of a related encounter on this site.

Best for

Groups who want a survival one-shot with a clear, escalating pressure mechanic instead of a room-by-room dungeon, and Game Masters who like running a named villain with a real personality and a full stat block rather than a generic monster. The Huntsman is CR 9 with legendary actions; Vael, his white wolf, and the yeth hound pack each have their own stat blocks too.

What the Game Master should know

The Trail mechanic does most of the pacing work for you: raise it when the party is careless, lower it when they're clever, and use the included printable DM Hunt Tracker to keep the number visible at the table. Five different reasons the party might already be in the Feywild are included, so this slots into an existing campaign as easily as it runs as a one-shot. The final chase scales its Climb Points requirement to party size, so it stays tense whether you're running 3 characters or 6.
